What is the difference between "total days" and the "years, months, and days" breakdown?

Total days is a straight count of every calendar day between your two dates. The years, months, and days breakdown expresses that same span the way people normally describe time. Because months vary in length, the breakdown is worked out from the real calendar rather than by dividing the total days evenly — so both figures are correct, they simply present the same span in two different ways.

Does the calculator include the end date?

By default, no — it counts the days between your two dates without counting the final day. For example, 1 March to 5 March is 4 days. If you switch on Include end date, the last day is counted too, making that same range 5 days. Turn it on whenever both the first and last day should count, such as for a trip, a rental, or an event.

Does it count business days (Monday to Friday)?

Yes. With Show business days ticked, the calculator adds a count of the working days — Monday to Friday — within your date range, alongside the normal result. It leaves out Saturdays and Sundays automatically, but it does not remove public holidays, so you may need to subtract those separately for your country.

Does it handle leap years correctly?

Yes. The calculator works from real calendar dates, so the extra day in each leap year — 29 February — is always counted. Any span that crosses a leap day includes it automatically, with no adjustment needed from you.

Can I find the number of days until a future date or since a past date?

Yes. Your dates can be in the past or the future. Enter today's date and a future date to count down to an event, or enter a past date and today to see how many days have passed since it.

What happens if I enter the dates in the wrong order?

Nothing breaks. If your end date is earlier than your start date, the calculator swaps them for you and adds a small "dates swapped" note, so you always get the correct result.

Do I have to use the business-days option?

No — it is optional. The business-days line is shown by default, but you can untick Show business days at any time, and the calculator will show just the calendar difference: the years, months, and days breakdown along with the total days and weeks.

Is the Date Difference Calculator free to use?

Yes, completely free. There is no sign-up, no download, and no limit on how many calculations you can make. It runs entirely in your web browser.

Does it work on a mobile phone?

Yes. You can type the day, month, and year straight into the fields on any phone or tablet, and the cursor moves forward on its own as you go — with no calendar pop-up required.

Can I share a date calculation with someone else?

Yes. After calculating, use the Copy Link, Share, or WhatsApp buttons to send your result. The link stores your selected dates, so the same calculation reopens exactly when someone visits it.

Are my dates saved or sent anywhere?

Your dates stay on your device. Your most recent entry is saved in your own browser so it is ready next time, and nothing is sent to any server. A calculation is only shared if you choose to use the share or copy-link buttons yourself.
